Methomyl is a carbamate insecticide first registered for use in the United States in 1968. Methomyl is a cholinesterase inhibitor in humans, categorized as highly to moderately toxic when a person is exposed to the pesticide via mouth, eyes or inhalation. If exposed to, methomyl can overstimulate the nervous system resulting in nausea, dizziness, confusion. High exposures can result in respiratory paralysis and death. To minimize health impacts, the US. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) classified agricultural methomyl products as restricted use pesticides (RUPs).
Due to toxicity concerns and multiple misuse cases, all pesticide products containing methomyl are classified as (RUPs) in the state of Indiana. Methomyl products may only be sold and distributed by Restricted Use Pesticides Dealers (RUDs). Methomyl products may only be purchased by certified applicators. Methomyl products may only be used by, or under the supervision of, certified applicators.
Like a federal RUP, all sales of methomyl have specific recordkeeping requirements. For additional information on RUP recordkeeping requirements, please review our RUP Dealer page.
